Walter Sandoval's Obituary
Walter Sandoval, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Fremont on February 19 surrounded by his wife of 55 years, Connie and his two daughters, Monica and Angela.
Born in Oakland, California, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jessie Sandoval.
He graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland. He started his career at AC Transit in Oakland at 20 years old and held many positions including painter and foreman. At the time of his retirement, after 41 years with the company, he held the number one seniority position of all time in AC Transit. He was very proud of this. And his friends at work called him Number 1. He loved working at AC Transit and was thankful for the opportunity to be there. He met many lifelong friends that he cherished.
Walt was an avid sports fan, especially to his beloved Oakland Raiders. He was a season ticket holder for many years starting in 1965. Walt treated many friends and family to enjoy the games with him. He was a history buff, music lover, movie connoisseur and, some would say, a walking encyclopedia. He could tell you many facts and stories about any sports player, movie actor, singer and our country’s history. Walt loved to share his knowledge with anyone that was interested. His phone rang constantly of people asking trivia questions because everyone knows Walt would have the answer, and if he didn’t he would have the resources to find out and
make sure he told you. He enjoyed making videos and music CDs for friends and family.
Walt was a father and grandfather like no other. He not only was one hundred percent involved in his two daughter’s lives and activities growing up never missing a parade, a cheerleading game, a dance recital or anything his daughters were involved in, but he also continued with
their children, his two grandchildren, Darren and Savannah. He coached Darren’s basketball team, as well as volunteered to work props for Savannah’s musical productions. When he wasn’t volunteering, he was supporting in every way he could, picking up from school and driving to activities. Never ever did he miss a dance recital, concert, musical, volleyball, softball, basketball or baseball game. Darren and Savannah loved their papa more than words can say. He taught them so much and enriched their lives with his love of music, history, sports, and movies. He taught Darren how to throw a baseball. He taught Savanah how to play the guitar. He will always be their Papa, El Macho Grande.
Walt was a devoted and loving husband to Connie. He cherished her, spoiled her and took care of her immensely with unconditional love and devotion. They met at the young ages of 14 and 15 respectively, and they were the love of each other’s life and had a love of a lifetime. Walt is survived by Connie, his wife of 55 years; Angie and Ray, his daughter and son-in-law; Monica, Sean, and Savannah, his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter; Harry and Kay, his two siblings; Jeanie, his sister-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews. Papa will be with his grandson, Darren, in heaven.
