Vasdev Choudhry's Obituary
Vas Choudhry (1945 -2022 )
Vas Choudhry was a devoted husband, father, a doting grandfather, a caring uncle and brother to family around the world. A process engineer, Vas spent his career working at Tata Steel in India, then Praxis Engineers and GE before retiring and consulting on various projects. His journey to the U.S. began at his beloved Penn State, where he attended graduate school.
Integrity and service: Were his Defining Characteristics. He was always there for any and everyone. Whether a longtime friend or a neighbor down the street he had just met. Eager to lend a helping hand. Vas was known to push people hard to succeed—at work, on the soccer field, at the ping-pong table, or with family members and friends. He saw all of us as what we were capable of and wanted us to be our best. At the same time, he never gave up on people. In moments of sadness or frustration, Vas was ready to offer advice or encouragement, often in the form of handwritten notes on his favorite yellow-lined notepad paper. It is said that some people in life are gardeners, and Vas literally put in the work to help us all grow. And of course, he loved gardening in his backyard too, proudly sharing all kinds of fruit from his garden.
Vas’s charm and good nature put people at ease and garnered him new friends wherever he went. He always had a story to share as a way of connecting. And then there was his laughter, often at his own jokes! Sometimes, he would be chuckling even before getting to the punch line. He also had a way of making people feel special, whether creating a fun cocktail or a delicious dessert.
Vas cared deeply about the world around him. He volunteered for many causes, including the Association for the Development of Bihar (AODB), which provided needed health care to poor communities in India. He loved volunteering as soccer coach for his daughters’ teams. Conservationist to A Fault He would share tips to save water, harvest rain water and help the environment to anyone that listened. He deeply believed that we could all do our part to make the world a better place. And Vas did indeed leave this world, and all of us, better for knowing him.
Keeping Vas's dedication to social causes especially children's education, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, you please make a donation to Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation USA at www.ekal.org
