Suneel Maharaj's Obituary
Suneel was born to parents Ambika and Suruj Maharaj on 25th February 1962 in Suva, Fiji Islands. He spent his childhood in Nasinu surrounded by extended all living closeby. The family formed their roots in Nasinu upon the completion of his great grandfathers indentured service.He grew up as the eldest of four in the family as the only son, and attended Nehru Memorial Primary School and Mahatma Gandhi High School. After schooling, he started employment at Carpenters Fiji Limited, Westpac Banking Corporation and Datec NZ Limited. At Datec, his career blossomed and he became the Regional IT Delivery Manager for the Westpac account.Over the years, he achieved numerous certifications from multiple educational institutions including being Six Sigma Certified in Project Management and Information Technology from Villanova University, Philadelphia.He moved to the United states in Dec 2007 with his wife, Sneh and three sons, Rajat, Rajiv, and Rahil and settled in Hayward, California. During his time in the United States he was able to reconnect with many family and friends that had also settled here. Suneel had a unique ability to touch people’s lives with his genuineness, and jovial nature. He was always full of jokes, and had the ability to connect with anyone, regardless of age.Suneel was a son, brother, husband and father. He had many hobbies and interests, which included music, movies, reading, politics, and sports to mention a few. He was a lifelong Manchester United fan, and was able fulfill his goal of watching a live match in person here in the United States.Suneel passed away tragically on October 29th, 2016. He had a brief stay at Kaiser San Leandro having developed complications from prescribed medication. He is survived by his mom, Suruj Maharaj; wife, Sneh Maharaj; sons, Rajat, Rajiv and Rahil, sisters, Vineeta Nand, Irene Maharaj, and Evelyn Lal, brothers-in-law, Nainendra & Pradeep, niece Shubha and nephew Krish.His viewing and final rites will be on Wednesday, November 2nd at 10am. Family and friends, please invite anyone who knew him to attend.
