Earlier today I was thinking of kids I went to grade school with and decided to look some of them up. Robert was one of those kids I went to school (Waterman in So. Holland). I’m sorry to find out he has passed away. He was a nice blond haired boy with the biggest eyes in the class. Everyone liked him and he was just an all around good kid.
I met Bob at a job we were doing at the airport. He was prepping for the day and finished before lunch. I asked him what he wanted to eat and he said he don’t care he’ll eat anything. So I got him a hamburger steak plate with Mac salad. He took one bite and said “man this is good!” Within 3 minutes his plate was clean and probably hooked on hamburger steaks. He eventually went on to other jobs and ultimately went back to the mainland when things got slow. He called me a few months ago to ask how things were and how I was doing. One thing about Bob I’ll never forget is that he treated me as an equal. I’m only 35 years old relatively young but he treated me with respect and kindness. I’ll never forget Bob. I’m glad to have met him and proud to have called him my friend. He will be missed. Another brother gone too soon. I hope he’s off somewhere riding his motorcycle feeling happy as happy can be!
