It's been 4 years since Dick's death, I hope the family can still receive this.
I worked with Dick at Varian and he was a big influence on my career and life. Dick has so many sayings and they come back to me from time to time but a favourite is to indicate abundance saying, "as many as Carter has liver pills."
I thought of Dick and Sue recently while preparing a salad and remembering that they would invite the accelerator students over for dinner and Sue would prepare her famous salad. I remember Dick's model railroad in the building out back. He would happily tear down and rebuild a railroad bridge if his original wasn't historically correct. I remember Moose, the geriatric black lab. He was totally deaf but the sweetest dog.
I'm sure the family values the lamps that Dick made from Unitrode doorknob diodes.
I'll never forget my friend and mentor, Dick Thompson.
