Phyllis Caroline Nelson's Obituary
Phyllis Caroline Nelson Jan. 22, 1931 to Feb. 3, 2012 of San Leandro Passed away peacefully with her dog Shelby by her side. She was 81 years old. She was born to Nels and Judith Person in Oakland, California and continued to reside in Alameda County her entire life. She was married to Jerry Nelson for 46 years who preceded her in death in 1994. She loved her job as a volunteer at St Rose hospital and enjoyed having lunch with her children when her shift was over. She was an active member of the San Leandro First United Methodist Church. She was very active in PTA at James Monroe Elementary School for many years and loved being a yard duty teacher. She was an avid reader and recently was enjoying her new NOOK that she received for Christmas. She loved to spend time with her family, loved knitting, playing Bingo, Sorry and going on vacations. She is survived by her daughters; Sheree Nelson, Judith Pitcher (Jeff), Stacey Baker (Russell), Karin Purcell, grandchildren; Pam Nelson Pirie (James), Brian Woolf, Nicole Woolf Gonzales (Daniel), Dorothy Pitcher, Jeffery Pitcher, Anthony Purcell, Rayanne Purcell, Eddie Jones, Shain Baker, Jerry Baker, great grandchildren Jeremy, Ryan, Ben, Hailey Pirie and Jonathan Gonzales. She is also survived by her two siblings Vernon Person and Wally Person (Doris). She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Phippen. She is survived by her best friend Charlotte Gaspari and many nieces, nephews and friends. We love you and you will be so missed. The viewing will be Thursday 5-9pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. The Celebration of her life will be Saturday 11-3pm at First United Methodist Church 1600 Bancroft Ave. San Leandro.Published in Inside Bay Area on February 8, 2012
