Peter Laban's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter (Pete) Anthony Laban of Hayward, California announces his passing on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the age of 54 after a brief but valiant fight against cancer. Pete was a loving husband, a doting father and a beloved friend to all who knew him. Pete was born on September 10, 1963 in South Dakota. He was the son of U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, Anthony Laban and Carmen Laban who was from the Philippines. He grew up on Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and moved back the U.S. when he turned 18. When he first moved back to the states he lived in South Carolina with his Auntie Gondi whom he considered his second mother. It was in South Carolina where he would begin his career in the automotive industry. In 1992 Pete began his career with the Porsche Brand in San Diego, California. While living in the inland empire of Southern California he became a vaunted and greatly-admired member of the Porsche community. A bachelor for most of his life, he was dedicated to his job and driven by his passion for cars. His life changed while working at Porsche Riverside in 2008, when he began to date his future wife, Cindy. They married in September 2011, and had a beautiful daughter three years later. After twenty years of employment in Riverside, he transitioned with his family to Hayward, California in 2016, to work as the general sales manager for Carlsen Porsche in the Bay Area. Always generous with a greeting and a handshake, few people remained strangers around Pete. His smile and his affability announced his presence wherever he went. Making other people feel valued was a priority to him, whether in his interactions with the customers who asked for him by name, or with those who were lucky enough to call him a friend. He was a smart but fair businessman, who enjoyed making deals to help fulfill commitments to his customers. A perfectionist to his core, Pete never shied away from hard work or from taking the extra step needed to make sure things were done to the best of his abilities. Pete enjoyed day trips and vacations with his family, and will be remembered for his sarcastic yet playful sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, cooking/grilling delicious meals, taking drives in his ’89 Speedster, savoring special meals in fine restaurants with friends and family, and ensuring his closet was well-stocked with sharp-looking outfits for the dealership showroom floor. In all, Pete was someone who just loved and embraced life. Pete is survived by wife, Cindy, their daughter, Phoebe, his mother and father-in-law, Marie and Jerry, sister Kathy, brother Steven, his sister and brother-in-law, Marlana and Vinay, his niece Priyanka, along with many friends both personal and professional. Services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Chapel of the Chimes at 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA, 94544. A brief reception will follow.
