Pearl Rose Rivera's Obituary
Pearl Rose Rivera, 86, of Newark, CA, passed away peacefully on
September 24, 2023. She was born on July 21, 1937, in Pasay City,
Philippines. Pearl dedicated over 30 years of her career to the
Dominican Sisters Convent infirmary at Mission San Jose, CA.
Pearl is survived by her loving children, Michael Rivera (Penny), Stephen
Rivera (Karyn), and Kevin Rivera (Mounukiuoleva Finau). She was a
cherished grandmother to Alexandra (Carlos), Mikey, Kaitlin, and Malia.
Pearl also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
She had a special bond with the sisters and staff at the Dominican
Sisters Convent of Mission San Jose.
Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufino, her
brother William Martin, and her sisters Mae Woo and Alice Boyer.
In her free time, Pearl enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and planning family
gatherings. Her greatest joy came from ensuring her grandchildren were
happy. The Convent, however, was her second home. After spending 30
years there, she retired but continued to volunteer and participate in
their many events. For their annual Christmas Boutique, Pearl sewed
and crocheted many dozens of items which were sold as donations to
the Convent.
Pearl worshiped at the Convent chapel, and at St. Edwards Church in
Newark, CA.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Chapel of the Chimes in
Hayward, CA.
