Miriam Bertelson's Obituary
Miriam I. BertelsonPassed away Nov 9, 2006, in Fremont, CA at the age of 88. She was born in San Diego on Nov 2, 1918 and grew up in Pasadena, where her family had settled since the 1880s. After getting her bachelors degree from UC Santa Barbara, she was a schoolteacher for many years. She served her country as an Ensign during WW II and traveled all over the country, meeting her husband during that time. In 1959 the Bertelsons moved to Castro Valley, CA, and in 1972 moved to Fremont. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Chester J. Bertelson, and their son Curtis Bertelson. She is survived by her children Mel Bertelson of Hayward, Ken (Dianne) Bertelson of Union City, and Karen Anderson of Nevada City, her sister Marjorie Helms of Lincoln, as well as ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Miriam had many interests, chief of which was genealogy, and she was proud to have traced her ancestry back hundreds of years. She was a member of several organizations including the DAR, Sons of Norway, and First Families of Virginia. Services will be held Friday, Nov 17.
