We are sad to see Aunt Miriam’s life end after all these years. She has always been an involved and mentally energetic person with much to say. In my youth, I remember having my first frozen green peas at the Bertelson house in La Canada, a peculiar little memory that comes to mind. I also remember good times whenever visiting with Chet and Miriam and their children. She suffered much pain but always seemed to be able to muster a cheerful demeanor for our visits. Write your memory here…Miriam was an avid researcher into her families history. A dedicated spouse, mother and grandmother she hid much physical pain from most of us, but always hoped for the best. I will always remember the meetings with her and Chester over the kitchen table as they shared their wealth with their children and grandchildren, agonized over their trials and tributlations and gloated over their accomplishments. One thing is certain is that Miriam always was faithful to her beliefs and prayed for the best for her family. The stories never ended as I felt I was actually transported to the Mayflower. Write your memory here…I will always remember Miriam when she attended the Jacobson Family Reunion at Waterville, Iowa in 1993. The Hans Jacobson family gathered at the Waterville Lutheran Church one evening during the reunion for a night of reminiscing about their family. I was invited to join them, and remember Miriam telling several interesting stories about the family. One story was how she first arrived in South Dakota, dressed inappropriately in a fur coat and high heels since she was met with a horse-drawn wagon.
