Maury Eugene Selvin's Obituary
Maury Eugene Selvin was born to Bobbie Eugene Selvin and Joan Marie Rowan on February 27, 1964 in Los Angeles, California; he was the fourth of five siblings. Maury attended Sullivan Junior High School and Fairfield High School where he met, courted, and married Lorelei Little. Maury was the proud father of Burgundi Selvin-Hernandez, Maury Jr., and Jordan Ramon Selvin. Maury also attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington and served in the United States Air Force.His proudest accomplishments were playing semi-professional basketball for the Texans and playing International Basketball. In Israel Maury played in Afula, Haifa, Safat and Hadera; in Europe he played in Groningen, Netherlands, Bree, and Belgium; and in Torres Vereds, Portugal. Maury, a licensed Crematory Manager, began his crematory training at Pacific Interment in Oakland. When a crematory operator's position became available at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward he applied and was hired. That was over three years ago. Maury was larger than life, he had a huge heart, and the most amazing laugh. He will be missed by all of his 'Chimes Family.'Maury's favorite place to visit... .the gym! He was always eager to share his workout regimen and he encouraged others to join him at the gym.Maury enjoyed being with his family and friends, fishing, and an occasional horse race. He listened to old school music while washing his car, which kept his swagger in check. His love for dogs, most especially Woo, earned him the title of 'Dog Whisperer.'Maury's biggest love was making others laugh and joking with his nieces and nephews. He was a gentle giant whose size was intimidating but his heart and spirit were for the love of others.Maury was called to glory on September 11, 2012 after battling a short illness. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories his wife, Lorelei Little, three devoted children, Burgundi Selvin-Hernandez,, Maury Jr., and Jordan Ramon Selvin, his three grandchildren, Isaiah, Jonah, Jada Hernandez, his father, Bobbie Eugene Selvin, his siblings Joyce Burrus, Cecelia Geter, Michael and Rochelle Selvin. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, Daryl Turner, Maelene Cruz, Tiana Selvin, Ashley Geter, Danielle Geter, Malik Selvin, Jaszmin Geter, Milaya Rose, Amani Tizeno, and Da'rhyana Turner, and his close friends. Maury will forever be mourned by his most faithful companion and loyal friend Woo Woo Selvin.Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11 AM, the funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Interment is private.
