John "Jack" Mattos' Obituary
John Francis MattosResident of AlamoNov. 30, 1918 - March 18, 2011 John Francis Mattos, lovingly known as "Jack" passed away Friday after a heroic 92 years of loving, caring and living at an intensity and consistency only he could create. Jack was born in Oakland and graduated from Castlemont High School in 1937. After serving in the Army for 4 years in World War II, he returned to the love of his life, his wife of 52 years "Dottie". He then began his career as an entrepreneur and mentor of his business J & M Paint Company. As one of the founding members of the Golf Nuts at Willow Park in Castro Valley, Jack was known for his phenomenal short game and you counted yourself LUCKY to be in his foursome. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy, and three brothers, Henry, Walter, and Raymond. He is survived by family members that include devoted children Vicki, and husband TR Bietsch of Lincoln, Jack, of San Leandro and Ken, and fiancÃ?© Brenda Bolen of Alamo. He is also survived by his granchildren Tom and John Bietsch, Brian Mattos, Trina (Richard) Eiler, and great grandchildren Cole Bietsch and Bryce Eiler. His loving and generous spirit will be severely missed by more people than can be imagined. A man defined by his service to our great country, defined by his love of the game of golf, and defined by the endless dancing spirit he shared with his wife Dorothy. Defined; he was an extraordinary man. But bolder than all was the glue that held together every story he told, and every can of paint that he sold, the one thing he loved above all else; the people, the friends, and the family that surrounded him everyday of his life.Friends and Family are invited to a Celebration Memorial on Saturday, March 26th at the Willow Park Golf Course in Castro Valley starting at 3 p.m. Please direct any donations to the ALS Foundation for the Cure at 27001 Agoura Rd., Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301 or at www.alsa.org/donate.
