Jane “Grandma Kalai” ArialResident of Hayward (Born and Raised In Hawaii)The Perfect Grandmother….Sent from Heaven with Love & AlohaJane passed away peacefully on October 9, 2014, at her home in Hayward, CA.Grandma Kalai was born on March 18th 1921 in Oahu, Hawaii on the Waialua plantation to parents Banhelio and Anacelia (Annie) Mohica. She grew up with her siblings Hilda, Raymond, Margret, Carmela and Theresa. After the early death of her father, she, along with her siblings and mother moved to Maui. There they joined her grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles and lived in Iao Valley.There she grew up with her family there until she met John Arial. After their marriage they lived on the sugar plantation of Pu`unene where they had two children Betty Jane and Jacob. They then moved to the island of Oahu and lived in Wahiawa. Jane and her loving husband John Arial relocated to the mainland (California) in 1957 where together they built a home and took care of their family. After Papa John’s passing in 2009 Jane continued on the loving legacy they created together through 70 years of marriage.Jane was a stay-at-home mom to her two children and later grandchildren. She worked so very hard to make sure that her entire family was cared for and taken care of…Grandma Kalai seemed to never leave the kitchen unattended and was also never seen eating a meal before everyone in the family was fed and full including all company. She spent countless hours keeping the house immaculate and making sure all the little ones had their clothes ironed, their hair combed and that they were safe, sound and tucked in. Grandma’s family meant the world to her and she put them first in all she did.Kalai was preceded in death by husband John Arial. Her siblings that have preceded her are Raymond, Carmella, Margret, and Theresa in that order.She is survived by her sister Hilda Quinones, here children Betty Jane Rivera (Hayward) and Jacob Arial (Kansas City), grandchildren: Diana Rivera, Rob Rivera, Donna Rivera, Johnny Arial and Tara Harrupe. Grandma Kalai is also survived by great-grandchildren Angelina Postell, Naomi Rivera, Natalie Rivera, Michael Arial, Silas Harrupe, Aden Harrupe, Rachael O’Keefe, Jonathan Perez and Great Great-Grandchildren Elijah Postell and Izaiah Postell as well as Loving In-Laws “Aunty” Mike Arial, Rachel Rivera, Mike Postell and Rachel Arial.Grandma, you will be missed and never replaced. The memories you provided and the Love you showed will last lifetimes and we who carry on should only wish we could be half of what you were. We are sure you are resting in peace and that God has provided a special place just for you.We Love YouFamily and friends are invited to attend the service and burial for Grandma Kalai on Friday, October 17, 2014, 1pm at Chapel Of The Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd. Hayward.
