Michael Debraga
While our paths have diverged over the years, I hold dear memories of my uncle Humberto. The first encounter I had with him remains vivid in my mind. I must have been around 8 years old when he visited my mom, his sister Dalila, and my brother in Lisbon in the late 1960s, accompanied by his wife Omblina and daughter Ana from their home in Angola. I recall vividly that he brought a tape rocorder; it was a novelty to me at that age. He bestowed upon me the affectionate nickname "Miguel ovo michido" because of my love for scrambled eggs. Though our time together was fleeting, it left an indelible mark on me. As a young boy, I was fascinated by his experience in the Air Force. Many many years later, fate reunited us in Toronto, where he visited with me and my wife Angela and he still remembered the nickname he had give me.
Losing a family member is always a difficult ordeal, yet I take solace in knowing that my uncle led a remarkable life filled with adventures. Reaching the age of 98 is a testament to his resilience and zest for life. My heartfelt wishes go out to his immediate family, may they cherish the fondest of memories. With love and devotion, your nephew Michael deBraga.
