Henry John Klever's Obituary
Henry was born in Audubon Iowa on March 2nd, 1920. He was the youngest of 12 Children of Henry &Lena Klever. He lived on the family farm until his father died in 1930. The family moved to town shortly after that.
After graduating high school, he joined the Iowa National Guard. He was training with his unit in Baton Rouge Louisiana when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941. His unit was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey, then shipped out to Ireland. They eventually joined in the allied landing in North America. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He returned home and was discharged in July of 1945.
In 1947 while visiting an old friend in Oregon, he started working for Pacific Bell as a lineman and later as a phone installer. He eventually took a job with them in Hayward, California. On June 2nd, 1956, Henry married Loretta Schneider in Reno, Nevada. They had a son, Gary, born on June 1st, 1958.
Henry retired from the phone company in March of 1983. He enjoyed a long and peaceful retirement at his home in Castro Valley tending to his garden and fruit trees and visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He has 3 grandchildren Gregory, Melinda, Jessica, and 3 great grandchildren DJ, Veronica, and Jaxson. One of the highlights of their visits for them growing up was the hot cakes and bacon breakfast Henry would make for them.
Henry died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of February 4th, 2026, 26 days short of 106!
