HAROLD J TORQUEMADA's Obituary
Harold Jerome TorquemadaHarold “Turk” Torquemada, 91, of Fremont, California, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2015 he surrounded by his loving family. Born in Decoto (Union City), California on May 11, 1924 Harold was the fifth child of Paula Sanchez Torquemada and Antonio Torquemada. Harold worked for the California Nursery in Niles, Sanchez Fruit Company in Oakland, Martin & Diaz Construction, and finished his working career with the Alameda County Water District retiring in 1989.Harold served in the 119th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in the Third Army during World War ll. Harold landed on Omaha Beach on June 7, 1944 and served until after VE Day until his honorable discharge in 1945. Not long after returning to Decoto he met and married the love of his life, Mary Jane Perez in 1948 and together they raised three children in Niles. Harold is survived by is wife and best friend of 67 years Mary, sons Jeff (Wendy), Bruce (Erika) and daughter, Michele, siblings Antoinette Diaz, Josie George, and John Torquemada. Harold is also survived by five adoring grandchildren- Ryan Dennis, Courtney Dennis, Kayla Torquemada, Chase Torquemada, and Cole Torquemada. He leaves many cousins and nieces and nephews that have been and integral part of his life.Harold and Mary loved to dance and were members of the Keeway Swingers for forty-eight years. Camping trips in the motor home, world travel, and special time with is his family provided him with a rich and fun-filled life. Family members felt Harold was always the life of the party and he was never without his camera- snapping photographs at the many family celebrations.Harold quietly passed away at home surrounded by his devoted family. His kindness, easygoing nature, and dedication to family will keep his memory alive in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm (Rosary at 7:00pm) at Chapel of the Chimes, Union City, CA. A mass will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 9:30am at Corpus Christi Church in Fremont, CA. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre, Hayward, CA. A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at a family home following interment. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project: woundedwarriorproject.org.
