My Father passed away in 2015 also but He told me once that his Godparents were , TORQUEMADA in Niles. My Grandparents, Ramon & Manuela Fernandez, had an apricot orchard on Mission Blvd. I wonder if Harold's parent were my Father's Godparents? Harold and my Dad are about the same age.
Dear Mary & Family, We are saddened to learn of the loss of your husband Harold. Harold’s family, the Torquemada’s were long-time residents of Decoto. Your family, the Perez’, were long-time residents of Niles. When we were children during the Great Depression, our parents raised us the best way they could. We grew up and worked on the farms, factories and railroads surrounding our little town of Niles. We married the men who became the loves of our lives. Like our parents, we raised our families in our little town of Niles the best way we could. The years have passed, but not the memories. God Bless Harold. God Bless you Mary. Gene and I will miss Harold, he was always one to joke with you. He and Mary have been a part of our lives since 1980 as square dancers and friends, Mary made our wedding cake and it was delicious, even as it slid off its foundation. We all joked and called it the leaning tower of cake. I have many fond memories of Harold, and I am a better person for having known him. I remember all the Torquemada’s at so many family functions. Harold was no exception. My memories are ones of always remembering who we belonged to. We come from a large family with so many cousins but Harold and his siblings would always acknowledge us and was so nice and interested in how we were. He will be missed for sure. My mother Mary always spoke highly of her Torquemada family and was always happy to see them. Rest in peace dear cousin. Love cousin Bernie
