Grace Gutierrez's Obituary
At the age of 90, Grace Gutierrez passed away peacefully, at home in the loving presence of family July 17, 2016. She was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A child of the Great Depression, Grace relocated to Los Angeles when she was nineteen in search of opportunity. She eventually made her way to the Bay Area, where she lived most of her life. Her first marriage ended in divorce, but she frequently commented “at least I got three wonderful children from it”.As a single mother, Grace worked hard at physically demanding jobs to provide for her family. No sacrifice was too great. She was employed by Perky Pie bakery for more than twenty years prior to retirement. It was at the bakery store she met a handsome customer, Bill Reveley. They fell in love and were happily married for 25 years. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She loved to lavish them with culinary specialties such as tamales, New Mexico style enchiladas, tortillas and sopapillas, all from scratch – no short cuts.Grace had a generous spirit and was very gregarious. Wherever she went she would strike up conversations with strangers and make new friends. Her friendships were genuine and life-long. She truly touched many hearts along the way. She will be forever missed. The family would like to express their deep and lasting affection and appreciation to Georgia DeJesus, who began as a caregiver and became family.Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Mariano and Isabel, and brothers, Louie and Augustine. She is survived by her husband Bill Reveley (lovingly her Billy Boy), brother Eliseo Martinez, three children, Robert Gutierrez (Kris), Darlene Bennett (Jim) and Lorraine Gutierrez (Curtis); step-daughter Patty Duffy (Jim); nephews Louie and Albert Martinez, niece Carmen Duran; grandchildren Dawn, Jimmy, Nicole, Jennifer, Christine, John and Megan; and ten great-grandchildren.
