Gerald Raymond Johnson's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Raymond Johnson, known as Jerry.
He was the fifth of nine children born to Oscar William and Laverne Johnson on December 26, 1935, in Seattle, Washington
Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his children.
In 1954, Jerry joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years.
He married the love of his life, Jo Doris (Jody), on March 19, 1956, and together they enjoyed a long and wonderful life. They had five children, all of whom are with us today.
After being discharged from the Air Force in 1959, Jerry began working at Emil Villa’s Hickory Pit, where he dedicated 45 years of service until his retirement in 2001. Many referred to him as the "barbecue boss," a title he embraced with pride.
After retirement, Jerry discovered a passion for golf, a game he cherished for many years, even achieving a hole-in-one during his time on the course.
Jerry became a devoted member of the Bay Hills Community Church in Hayward, where he spent many years serving God faithfully. He led senior luncheons, participated in Bible study with the men’s group, and even took a leadership role at times.
A lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants, Jerry loved attending games at Candlestick Park and later enjoyed watching every game on television.
Jerry is survived by his five children: Sharon, Donald, Barbara, Patty, and Derek; three sons-in-law: Ron, Dave, and Risto; one daughter-in-law: Olga; three grandchildren: Megan, Adam, and Darren, and one great-grandchild, Scarlett. He is also survived by his sisters, Margret and Irene, and his brother, Richard.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Doris; his parents, Oscar and Laverne; his sisters: Betty, Anna, Laverne, and Shirley; and his brother, Robert.
Jerry, may you find eternal peace and rest in the loving arms of our Lord
