It Was August 1977 and all the family and friends had gathered at my Aunt Alva’s house following my Uncle Jim’s Funeral service. I was busy, making sure all the food that friends and family had brought to us was set out on the table and everyone was getting all that they needed. Jerry came up to me and pulled me aside and said he was just amazed at how calm and collected I was and how I made sure everything got done and was taking care of. He said the kindest words to me and I will never forget Never forget that special moment.
I went to the Hickory pit quite often and one time when I was there I was looking at the menu and Jerry came up to talk to me and I said I wish that grilled crab sandwich was tuna instead of crab and he said if you want tuna, I’ll make it tuna for you and he did and it was so good. I returned several times and I would always get that tuna sandwich grilled on sourdough. I would always tell the waitress that Jerry said it was OK. Jerry said I could have it made with tuna instead of crab, I haven’t had a sandwich that good in over 50 years.
Jerry you will always remain in my heart.
