Fred and I worked together, he with Flygt and me with JCH, on and off for thirty years. He set us, JCH, up as Flygt?s Municipal representative in NM back in the days when the uranium mine pump business was King and as he fondly kidded us at JCH ?when you were nothing?. There was no one all of us at JCH would rather work with than Freddie Flygt. He supported us in every way possible, always having out back, making wrongs right and we, Fred and JCH, together built a business for Flygt in NM, Arizona, West Texas and Nevada that is second to none. It was an honor for us, after his retirement, when he and Marcia came to a JCH company dinner in San Francisco where they hopefully felt the love of the people and company he helped build. I met Fred at my first Optimist Club meeting almost 10 years ago. He struck me as a warm, generous and humorous person. Over the years, through tumultuous times with the club, Fred’s strength and unwavering moral compass, helped us fight some pretty formidable foes. At every battle that seemed would be our last, Fred was the first to arrive and the most stoic in the face of challenge – we couldn’t have made it without him. His commitment to the club and to the Scouts he loved was boundless. It was an honor know him. He will be sorely missed.

Throughout the 10+ years I worked with Fred through his involvement with Boy Scouts and the sponsoring of Troop 273 by the San Leandro Optimists, he was a role model for us all. Long after his own sons had grown up and left Scouting, he was still there supporting the development of the youth of our community through Boy Scouts. His legacy will be that through our memories of Fred, we will all be challenged to willingly give of ourselves in some way in service to our community.
