It has been a long time since Everett and I spoke. And, yet, it seems like yesterday. I found Everett to be one of the most generous of people with his time. There was nothing that he would not help with if you asked.

I enjoyed the times that we spent together. And, since he was generally the one helping me instead of the other way around, I was particularly glad for the few times that I was able to help him.

In addition to being able to discuss and solve all things mechanical, I found that he also had equally valuable philosophies on life. In particular, during one conversation on faith, he pointed out that we are all beings of thought and that these thoughts defined us as much as our actions do. I have never forgotten this. Nor have I forgotten his willingness to share.

I extend my love and condolences to his entire family.

As one of five of his daughters, I have to say we had a complex relationship. I remember him trying to teach me geometry . He used many methods until I could understand . I loved him and feel sadness for his passing. I feel sure he is at peace now. I understand now why none of my voicemails or calls were answered. Gaunette, I’m glad my father was with someone who loved him. Thank you for taking care of him while he was sick.

I remember, when I was a young teenager madly in love with his second daughter, Everett taking a motley crew of teenagers out to water ski on many occasions at Modesto Reservoir and on the Sacramento Delta. He was very patient in teaching me how to water ski and even how to slalom on a single ski. We camped, we laughed, and I absolutely felt like I was part of the family.

After I went off to college and acquired a 10 year-old motorcycle, Everett helped me learn how to do my own maintenance, replace parts, and tune it up. He did not do it for me - he taught me how to do it myself. He was extremely patient in nurturing a neophyte mechanic to the point where I could take care of and fix the bike myself. The bike lasted almost 10 more years before I eventually took it to the junkyard.

Your kind deeds and patience in teaching will always be remembered.
