Tomlin, Enice May's Obituary
We lost an amazing lady on November 10. At the age of 103, she was living independently, was healthy both mentally and physically and had a positive outlook on life.
Born in Kennard, Nebraska, on May 3, 1921, Enice May Cunningham went on to be an example for many. During the Depression, she delivered newspapers to help provide for her family. At a time when most women didn’t attend college, she obtained her AA degree. When World War II broke out, she enlisted in the Army and was a payroll master. She was vey patriotic and proud of her service.
She moved to California where she met her husband, Arthur. She and Art had two children, Kathleen and Susan. In 1958, they purchased a new home in Hayward where she lived for 66 years. She began her working career as a civil servant at the Naval Supply Center. A hard worker, she began as a clerk typist and was promoted over the years to a contract negotiator.
Upon her retirement, she and Art traveled across the United States with their trailer. Travel was one of her passions. With the exception of North Dakota, all 50 states were visited. Travel abroad took her to many countries and on many adventures. She had great stories. When Art was no longer able to travel and after his passing in 1989, she traveled with her granddaughter Marilee as well as her sister Myrna and elder travel groups.
Reading, watching the Athletics and Warriors, were favorite pastimes. She kept active, logging a couple trips around the world on her stationary bike. For many years, she enjoyed Spring Training in Arizona with a fun group of friends.
Family was extremely important, and she spent much time with them. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Ellis Cunningham, brothers Ray, Bill and Chuck and sister Maretta Cunningham and dear sister Myrna Adair, and her husband of 39 years, Arthur Tomlin. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Tomlin-Maness (Cliff) and Sue Lightell (Steven), granddaughters Marilee Geissbuhler (Dan) and Pam Linzer (David), and great grandchildren Danny Geissbuhler and Karlie Geissbuhler. Also, her step grandchildren Andrea Albrecht and Keith Maness and great grandchildren Jake Maness and Alex Albrecht.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 30th.
