Elsie Ruth Schroer's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Elsie Schroer, 1922 – 2016 Elsie Ruth Schroer March 19th, 1922 – March 12th, 2016 Elsie R. Schroer, 93, passed away Saturday March 12th, 2016 in Brentwood, CA. She was born March 19th, 1922 in Coal City, IN, to Roy and Katherine Horn and was the eldest of two children. On May 17th, 1943, Elsie graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis, IN and began her career as an R.N. Shortly after, she met and married Max R. Schroer on January 31st, 1945 and settled in Bowling Green, IN, where they bought the Schroer Family farm. In addition to being a dairy farmer, she continued her work as a nurse in Green Castle, IN and during that time, they had three children. In 1964, they made a life changing decision to move to Hayward, CA, where she began her nursing career at Kaiser Hospital and continued to raise their family. Elsie enjoyed many hobbies such as swimming, biking, water skiing, fishing, and especially travelling in her retirement. She lived with a strong faith in God and a commitment to family. Many would describe her as humble, giving, selfless, friendly, and proud of her Indiana heritage. She is predeceased by her husband, Max, of 52 years and is survived by her children, Dirinda Halaxa, Myron Schroer, and Donnie Schroer; six grandchildren, Susan Lusher, Regina Waidman, Lori Borges, David Schroer, Niki Hume, and Donnie Schroer II; eleven great grandchildren; her brother, Richard; and many cousins. Visitation will be held Friday, April 1st, 5-9pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA. The Funeral will be held Saturday, April 2nd, at 1pm at Chapel of the Chimes, followed by Interment and Reception. The reception will be held at Mission Paradise Banquet Hall, 31115 Mission Blvd in Hayward, immediately following the interment services. Contributions can be made in Elsie’s honor to Resurrection Ministries in Brentwood, CA or George Mark Children’s House in San Leandro, CA.
