Elsie was a faithful and helpful member of our weekly Bible class. Her glowing presence clearly communicated that she was blessed to be able to feed on God’s Word, which nourished her and prepared her for the unending feast which she now enjoys. Pastor Philip Tesch
Several aspects come to mind when I sat down to write a note of tribute. All of them good. It started with Elsie’s parents, good hard working people that loved the Lord. Acting, doing, being as nearly like Christ was their focus, compass, and passion. ?The apple did not fall far from the tree? Elsie was always warm, caring and concerned about others. She was always aware of current events in politics, medicine, and and how it related to our culture. She made annual trips back to Indiana around Memorial Day….I suspect the race song ? Back home again in Indiana ? was a part of the motivation. ?The new-mowed hay sends all its fragrance From the fields I used to roam.? Perhaps the greatest reason was just visiting with family and friends. I treasure the memories of the conversations and times together. The family of Earl and Imogene Yegerlehner of Clay City, IN, have fond memories of Elsie (and Max) — memories that go all the way back to her childhood. Earl and Elsie were in the same confirmation class at St. Peter’s Reformed Church of Clay City. Earl recalls one church picnic when he and his teenage buddies decided to sneak away from the picnic and walk to a nearby swimming hole. They did not know that Elsie and a couple of her girl friends followed the boys and took their clothes while they were swimming. It was their most embarrassing church picnic! I remember when I was a child that our family would visit the Schroer family dairy farm near Bowling Green, IN. I thought Elsie was really a hard worker because she worked as a nurse, was a farmer’s wife, and was the mother of 3 children. That was a lot of work! But I especially remember that she was always friendly and gracious with a contagious smile. Years later when my oldest daughter was teaching on the Hopi reservation in Arizona and I took my parents to visit her, Elsie insisted that we spend at least one night with them before we flew out of Phoenix. Elsie and Max made us feel right at home, feeding us and showing us the local attractions. Elsie was still gracious and a joy to be around. I thank God for the blessing Elsie was to all those around her. I am confident she is now at peace with God, and I imagine she still laughs and God smiles too. Our prayers are with Elsie’s family. Grandma, Thank you for all the memories. I’m happy knowing that you are with God, Jesus and Grandpa, and are in peace, but sad because you will be truly missed. Love You Grandma
