In 1998 we were blessed when Don, and his recently late wife, Pat, moved into the house directly across the street from us. We shared many wonderful times together, too many to mention here! He always had a gleaming smile and kind words, often sprinkled with humor, ie… telling us he brought girls & beer over to our house to entertain our dog while we were hospitalized. He was a true Champion and he will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Now that you’re reunited, go give a big kiss to your beautiful bride, Pat and say “Hi” from us😊.
Missing you deeply,
Brian & Linda Rutley
Both Don and his wife Pat were people you wanted to be with! Their joy of life and family were happily shared with others including my family and we loved them for that. None of us, are ever really ready to lose our parents. Ever! What they both have left you with is wonderful memories and an abiding love that will never leave you!!! Of course it's hard right now for you their children! They might be physically gone, however they live on in your hearts & memories. How you as siblings, treat one another, as well as friends and others honors them! With that, " loving memory of them" you are a "living legacy for them!" I met Don in 1962 in the Hayward Fire Department. I was fortunate working for him later when he was a Captain. He was a natural leader and a joy to work with! With loving memories and deepest sympathy from our family to yours!

I had just met Don recently at an Elks event in Tracy. We had a great conversation. We discovered that we had both been first responders in neighboring cities during our careers. He had resided in the city that I worked for. We had a number of friends in common. We even had a common interest in softball and golf. It was my pleasure to also meet some of his family members at the event. I was looking forward to more conversations with Don. Even though I had just met him, I knew he was a great man. R.I.P. Don.
