Bing was born on December 21, 1931 in the Doo Tao village of Zhongshan, China, son of Hoy Bew and Mar Poy Yee Louie. The family later lived in Macau, China and then in Hong Kong where he spent most of his childhood. They moved again to Victoria, British Columbia when he was 19. He fell in love with his wife Jean Nipp there and they married on August 9, 1956. Bing continued to work diligently in the grocery business until he retired. He was married for 65 years until his wife’s passing earlier this year.
Family was the center of Bing’s life and spending time with them and keeping in touch was essential. Among his favorite pastimes was playing Mahjong with family and friends and also getting family together and hosting dinners, sharing his favorite Chinese dishes. He enjoyed passing his time gardening and watching a variety of sports including baseball, football and wrestling. He also enjoyed annual trips to Reno and occasional vacations in Canada and other parts of the world. He was a very generous and caring person and loved by everyone. Both Bing and his wife Jean will be greatly missed.
