My brother, Bing, was a a very caring and compassionate person, easy going and generous- always with a smile.
In 1951, five siblings arrived in Victoria, BC, Canada. Bing, being the eldest, had to help our Dad in the produce business selling door-door. Bing had learned some English in Hong Kong, hence no more schooling. After Bing got his driver's licence, Dad bought him a truck and gave him half of his produce route. That's how Bing started in business.
Even though times were tough, Bing would always give me a quarter once in a while. In the 1950's you could go to a matinee movie for 25c, drink & popcorn included. Large chocolate bars were 5c.soda pop 5c a bottle.
Bing loved kids like Dad did. His grand and great grand kids were his pride & joy. You could see his eyes light up when we talked about them. The six sisters and brothers were very close. We had many memorable vacations together. In the last 15 years, we would go to Reno almost every year. Like my brother, Fay, always said " Here come the 3 Stooges", When in Reno, Bing's favorite place was Cal Neva. Fay & I would always join him. The pit boss & dealers all knew him well. In the good times, they would give him food vouchers.
Bing is a very good MahJong player. He could hold his own with the best of players. Some folks in the Doo Tow Ass'n won't play with him because they would always lose. They said that he's too good of a player. We've played MahJong many times together. We even found time this summer when he was in Victoria.
As to being generous, I know that he looked after his kids, grand & great grand kids well. This summer, Carol & Leland took time to bring him to Canada to visit his relatives & friends. He wanted to make sure that Jean's Sisters & brothers, nephews & nieces shared some of his wealth. Bing had a bank account in Victoria. The two of us went to the bank and got 12 cheques for Jean's relatives. Most of the cheques were delivered in person in Vancouver & Victoria. After that was done, he was really happy and relaxed knowing that he had done his job. He also gave the 3 sisters cheques and also gave Ann, my wife, a cheque for all the bookkeeping and banking for the last 50 years.
We all miss you dearly and your big smile. Now you are in heaven with the love of your life, Jean. Rest in peace, brother,
Love, Henry
