BEN BETANCOURT JR's Obituary
Ben Betancourt Jr. Born in the city of Alameda, CA on February 11, 1964.Ben grew up in and attended school in San Leandro, graduating from San Leandro High School in 1982 where he participated in numerous music programs and played tennis.Ben had a passion for music and played piano and keyboard for most of his life. He owned and operated Star Audio Rehearsal Studio and a DJ service in San Lorenzo. He also worked at Smith Barney Brokerage in San Francisco for a number of years. Ben touched a number of lives while working in the music and DJ business as well as making some lifelong friends while at Smith Barney.Ben was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year and fought his disease bravely while enduring numerous chemotherapy treatments. Ultimately, the chemotherapy was unable to stop the progression of the cancer and he began a home hospice care program during the final weeks. Ben passed away at the age of 49 while being cared for at home in Fremont on Tuesday July 30, 2013. During his last weeks of life he was constantly surrounded and cared for by family and friends.Ben is survived by his parents Nohemi and Ben Betancourt Sr., his brother and sister in law David and Kari Betancourt and nieces Rachel, Jessica, Nicole and her husband Ben Lesser, his sister Nancy Lowe and his niece Charla, his Uncle David Zatarain, and his longtime partner and friend Steve Good.His burial service was at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on August 2nd at 12:00 noon.
