Alma James' Obituary
Alma James, popularly known as “Gram”, passed away at age 102.5 years young on Thursday August 1st, 2013. She was born on February 2, 1911 in Schlotheim, Germany and at age 16 immigrated with her parents and younger brother to the United States. A resident of San Jose for 47 years, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Francis James.Gram leaves behind a legacy of generosity, caring, and kindness – and a determined will to live a long, productive life, as evidenced by her large family. She is the beloved mother of Elizabeth Williamson of Colorado Springs, George James of Bakersfield, and Carol Davis of San Jose. She is the proud and loving grandmother of 17, great-grandmother of 46, and great-great-grandmother of 13 (and counting).Her funeral service was held on Friday, August 16 at 1:00 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Reflection Chapel, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA. Burial followed at 3:00 pm at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, adjacent to the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Checks to the American Cancer Society can be sent to Carol Davis or Lorrene Ritchie, who will send to ACS in honor of Gram.
