Vera Freitas Clifton died peacefully February 8th, with family by her side. Born in Oakland September 28th 1927 to August and Augusta Freitas, Vera spent all of her 90 years in the East Bay. She married Paul Clifton in January, 1953 and they made their home in Castro Valley, where Vera lived for more than 50 years. A lifelong member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Lodge 1548 Vera worked for decades at a now closed factory. She was a cherished neighbor and a surrogate grandmother to the children of her neighborhood. She also received tremendous love and support from neighbors who were more like family in their care and concern. Vera loved to garden, work puzzles and was a voracious reader who remained independent and active until her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, siblings Elsie (Pacheco), Adeline (Bacon) and Alfred, Abel, Manuel and George Freitas. Her infectious laugh and plain spoken approach to life will be missed by those that loved her. Services will be held ??? at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward.
