Ye Owe (Jennie) Chai Magcalas, embodied the American Dream. She was an entrepreneur, helped others, and seized opportunities. She passed on September 22, 2025 at the age of 79.
She lived a remarkable life.
Ye Owe was born in Taiwan on January 18, 1948. At 26, she immigrated to America and sought a better life for herself and family. In over 50 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, she worked hard, saved money, and made a comfortable life for herself and her family.
She was a barber and cut men’s hair for decades.
Ye Owe was married twice. Her first marriage was to Jin Hwang, whom she met and married in Taiwan. They immigrated together to San Francisco in 1973. They had 3 children and later divorced. In 1983, Ye Owe (Jennie) married Edguardo Magcalas. They remained happily married for 34 years until Ed’s death in 2017.
Ye Owe (Jennie) is survived by her grown children Jennie, Henry, Amy; her step-daughter Sheila; her 7 grandchildren James, Josie, Elise, Nicholas, Justin, Chelsea, and Amy’s daughter.
In the last year as she battled cancer, she continued to show her zest for life.
She will be remembered for her resilience, optimism, and generosity.
