Wilma Lucile Mennet's Obituary
WILMA LUCILE MENNET Passed peacefully on Sunday February 10, 2008 at the age of 94 following a long and difficult struggle with Alzheimer ‘s Disease. She was born on February 4, 1914 in Creston, Iowa to Willis and Ella Davis. Wilma also lived in Morris, Oklahoma and Coffeyville, Kansas before moving to California in 1939 where she spent the rest of her long life. Wilma was an accomplished bookkeeper, a talented seamstress, a gifted gardener and an exceptional cook. She was an active member of the Hayward United Methodist Church where she spent much of her time as a volunteer and as the church treasurer. Wilma was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her baby boy, Gary, six of her eight sisters, and her devoted husband, George Mennet, to whom she was happily married for nearly forty years before his death in 1981. She is survived by her sisters, Leona Perkins and Inez Lewis, of Coffeyville, Kansas, and her son and daughter; Steven Mennet of Renton, Washington and Julia Powell of Nevada City, California. She also has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as many close friends who she loved dearly. As her disease progressed, she spoke mostly of her wonderful childhood memories of her parents and sisters. Thank you to all those who loved her when she was well and to those who loved and cared for her during her illness. We would especially like to express our appreciation and thanks to the staff and caregivers at Quail Ridge Senior Living and Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley, California; the umbrella of love, care and support you provided to Wilma and her family over the last month was remarkable and your kindness will not be forgotten. Services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California.
