William"Bill" Quan Pong,Sr.'s Obituary
William Quan Pong, Sr., loving husband for 54 years of Evelyn Mah Pong, beloved father of Leland and his wife Heidi, Diana Shiba and her husband Martin, William Jr. and his wife Veda, devoted and proud grandfather of Kingland and Kevin Pong, Dustin and Ryan Shiba, William, Bonnie and Kallie Pong passed into eternal memory on March 28, 2002. A brother in Hong Kong, a sister in China, brothers and sisters-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, also survive him. Bill, as he was known to family and friends, was born on December 15, 1912 in Canton, China, immigrated to the United States when h was 12 years old, and was a 48 year resident of Oakland. He served honorably in the United States Army Air Force during World War II conflict.Retired after 22 years as a self-employed grocer, Bill, with Evelyn constantly at his side, devoted his senior years to his family, taking great pride and joy in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments, large or small, and tending to his backyard garden. In 1998, at the age of 85, with Evelyn, Leland, Diana, Billy and Ryan, Bill satisfied his lifelong desire to return to his native village in China. Recognized as a superior handyman to his family and friends, he never hesitated to undertake any household project. He was an avid follower of the performances of his favored publicly held corporations. Bill loved to talk to all who he came in contact with about his beloved family members and early life experiences. If you had the good fortune of meeting him, you would quickly become a friend, as he had the gift of engaging strangers in immediate conversation. His jovial, energetic spirit was infectious to all fortunate enough to make his acquaintance.Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday, April 4, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 5, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home - Mission Chapel with Entombment to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.
