William "Bill" Gardner's Obituary
In Loving Memory of William R. GardnerWilliam, 85, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Monday September 19, 2016. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, April 30, 1931.Bill joined Roller Derby in 1951 in Chicago, Illinois where he met his future wife Gloria at the training school. They traveled all over the United States and Canada. They skated together on the New York Chiefs, Chicago Westerners and the San Francisco Bay Bombers. They married in 1953 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bill moved his family from New York to California in 1967. He was a sheet metal spinner for West Coast Steel for 25 years. Bill’s love and passion was his 4 grandchildren, cooking, fishing, the horse races and watching classic westerns. Bill taught his children and grandchildren the value of life and how to enjoy it.He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Gloria Gardner, 3 children Jerry (Julie) Gardner of Martinez, Geralynn Rhoades of Minnesota, Allison (Tony) Keahi of San Lorenzo. 4 grandchildren, Nick Gardner, Tyler Keahi, Haley Keahi and Amanda Rhoades.Memorial to celebrate Bill’s life will be at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
