William Baker was born on March 14, 1916 in Washington D.C. His mother died of Flu when he was 2 years old and for the next 16 years lived in and out of foster homes and on the streets of Washington. He joined the army and was stationed in Arizona when the war broke out. He was involved in the Battles of New Guinea and the Philippines and was in the Philippines when the war ended. After the war he trained in aircraft maintenance and started working for American Airlines in Washington D.C. where in 1949 he Isabella married in 1951. They had two children, Allen born 1952 and Gavin born in 1954. In 1956 the family moved to San Diego California and then moved to Hayward in 1964 where William and Isabella lived to this day. In the 70’s they started traveling abroad more as Allen and Gavin graduated high school and leaving the nest. They traveled to such places as Australia, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Italy, and Great Britain. He retired from American Airlines in 1980 and then worked for Air California for 5 years where he retired from being an aircraft mechanic. Both his sons followed in his footsteps and became aircraft mechanics, Allen for American and Gavin for United. William enjoyed his retirement through out the years and enjoyed good health until the last few years and culminated in his death on January 31.He was preceded in death by his brothers James, Alvin, and Edward, his sisters Inez, Essey, and Catherine. He was the last of his brother and sisters and was the baby of the family. He is survived by his wife Isabella, his sons Allen his wife Elizabeth and Gavin, his grandchildren Chrissy, Michael, Michelle and Daniel.
