Mrs Wanita Fern Young's Obituary
Wanita Fern Young, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, passed away on May 15, 2025 in San Lorenzo, CA at the age of 99.
Born April 6th, 1926 in San Leandro, CA to Wilma Belle Martin and Cecil Martin, Wanita was the youngest of four siblings raised in Hayward and Castro Valley. She was a lifelong East Bay resident and attended Hayward High School. During WWII she supported her country by working in the Caterpillar Tractor Company. In 1946 she married Wayne R Piersol upon his return from the war. They had three children, Kittie (Sloan), Lucile (Sorenson), and Wayne R Piersol II.
Wanita was a talented artist and had many creative pursuits throughout her life, working professionally for Mervyn’s Department Store as a catalog artist and personally as a woodworker, carver, sculptor, seamstress, doll maker and baker. The ultimate DIY woman, Wanita was always on hand to help neighbors with their home projects as well. In 1984 she married Roy Young and they spent many happy years together, joined later in life by their beloved dog Tinkerbell. Together, they created many projects in their woodshop and they loved hosting family and friends in their cabin on Savary Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Wanita was always the life of the party. Quick-witted and exuberant, she made friends easily and was always spirited, sassy and fun. She loved her family, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She leaves behind three children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who all love her and will miss her very much but take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
