Walter Antonio Schumpelt's Obituary
Walter A. Schumpelt Resident of San Lorenzo August 14, 1924-April 11, 2012 Walter A. Schumpelt passed away suddenly this past Wednesday. He was 87 years old. He had been living recently at Casa Sandoval in Hayward, having lived in San Lorenzo since 1955. He was born in Fredricksburg, Texas, the oldest of 7 children. As a young man, he joined the navy during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines. After the war he stayed in San Francisco and it was during this time that he met and married Dorothy Howe. They eventually settled in San Lorenzo to raise their two children, Patricia Ann and Stephen Karl. They were married 44 years before Dorothy passed away in 1990. Walt worked as a paint manufacturer, having a unique eye for color, never really retiring until well into his 80’s. He was known as a great dad and a good neighbor. He could fix anything and loved working with others. During the last 17 years his late companion, Patricia Tester, taught him to travel and enjoy senior living. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Patricia and Philip Gordon, of Hayward, his son and his wife, Stephen and Jean Schumpelt, of Sacramento, his two granddaughters, Stephanie Ruble and her husband Matt, and Katie Schumpelt of Sacramento, and one brother, Warner, and two sisters, Marie and Rosalie. Friends and family are invited to a viewing at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward on Sunday, April 15 from 5 to 9PM, and service on Monday, April 16, at 1:30PM. A reception will follow with refreshments.
