Wai Hong Fong's Obituary
Wai Hong Fong, a truly remarkable renaissance woman and matriarch of the family, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon at her home in Hercules, California. She was 89 years old. Born in the rural village of Taishan, China to Dong Wong Chen and Nguey Yung Gee, Mrs. Fong’s incredible life spanned several countries and crossed an ocean. She was married to Kam Jom Fong for over 70 years and her children describe a loving devoted mother that would take them for ice cream on the streets of Hong Kong after catching a weekend movie or walking the kids to school. She was an amazing cook and head of the household who delighted in taking care of all of those around her. Her kitchen was always busy and full of the noises and aromatic smells of a happy, full life lived always surrounded by her adoring children. She was a devoted homemaker whose life lessons spanned much more than can be learned in a classroom – teaching those who were fortunate enough to know her about love, laughter, and the importance of family. Mrs. Fong is survived by her large family including her brother Shaowen Chen and his wife Jian Li. Kam and Wai Hong have three children, 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Her son, Milton Fong, is married to Cui Fong with her four grandchildren (Bruce, Emily, Melissa, and Clara). Her daughter, Mamie Ng, is married to Ron Ng with her 5 grandchildren (Roland, Ramford, Rita, Ruby, and Ryan) and her 7 great-grandchildren (Mia, Logan, Chloe, Max, Ellie, Lucas, and Chelsea). Her daughter Millie Cheung is married to John Cheung with her two grandchildren (Francis and Chris) and three great-grandchildren (Vivian, Jonathan, and Colin). She will be forever in our hearts.
