Vivian Mae Logan Fletcher
August 29,1922 - June 18, 2024
Lodi, Ca
Born in San Francisco over 100 years ago, Vivian Fletcher grew up on her family’s farm in Alvarado, California. Her father Andrew Kerr Logan (Vivian Millington) was the oldest of 12 children of James and Rebecca Logan. Vivian and her sister Sally Patton always were surrounded by multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Vivian lived off campus in The Tabor House while earning her degree and teaching certificate from San Jose State University and taught kindergarten for several years after graduation. She loved the frequent Tabor House reunions as a time to catch up with life long friends.
Vivian married Leon Fletcher in 1945 at the Centerville Presbyterian Church. Together they lived in Naples, Italy, Lagos Nigeria, Lanakai ,Hawaii, Ben Lomond, Lodi and several homes in the Monterey Bay area of California. Vivian and Leon had two daughters, Nancy Rouppet of Lodi, California and Lorie Ybarrola (Steven) of Lexington, Ky, three grandchildren (Jared, Micah, and Brianna) and two great-grandchildren (Jaylee and Daxton). Vivian was a true homemaker. She sewed her daughters’ clothing, knitted coveted slippers and sweaters, always had a batch of her chocolate chip cookies in the oven, and candles on the dinner table every night. Vivian drove her daughters to countless activities including piano and horseback riding lessons and used her time waiting in the car to write wonderful letters to her close relatives. Receiving a letter from Vivian was a treat!
Vivian was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Monterey and especially enjoyed the organ music. Vivian traveled all over the world - she visited over 38 countries. She loved walking on the beach, shell hunting, swimming and snorkeling. She enjoyed sailing the Monterey Bay on the family’s sailboat. Vivian always tended a beautiful garden wherever they lived, often including dry rock riverbeds in her landscaping. Vivian played the piano and organ and liked going to concerts at Mt. Hermon, California.
Vivian and her sister Sally Ann Logan Patton were the best of friends and avid quilters. Any and all special occasions were marked by a gift of an unique quilt. Vivian hand-quilted over 300 beautiful works throughout her life. Vivian and Sally enjoyed searching for material to quilt, going to the symphony in San Francisco and a girls trip to Napa every year.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Logan Family Plot at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California on Saturday July 20, 2024 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations sent to the James Logan Family Scholarship (38147 Kimbro Street, Fremont, CA 94536) given each year at the James Logan High School.
