Vilma D. Martin's Obituary
Vilma Dacanay Martin, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, was born February 7, 1942 to Flora Agudo Barsana and Hugo Dacanay in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She had one sister, Lydia Roa. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Quezon City and graduated from Philippine Women’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1963. On January 19, 1970, she married Gerardo Santiago Martin and soon after welcomed their son, Gerald, in November 1970. In May 1971, Vilma and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in San Francisco, CA. Vilma welcomed her daughter Melinda in May 1974. After 23 years of residing in San Francisco, Vilma and her family moved to Union City, CA.During her retirement years, Vilma enjoyed gardening, shopping, playing the piano, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and granddog Momo. Nothing brightened her smile more than seeing her children and grandchildren together.Vilma bravely fought and survived cancer. She passed away peacefully at Gateway Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hayward on August 12, 2017 with her family at her side. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerardo, son Gerald, daughter Melinda, daughter-in-law Joyce, niece Pinky Roa, grandchildren Garrett, Jamie, and Antonio-Steven, and granddog Momo.
