Vernie L.“Jackie” Drake March 4, 1925 – March 2, 2014 Resident of HaywardVernie L. “Jackie” Drake passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2nd.Vernie was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Charles and Verna Hovey. She moved to Alameda, California as a young adult where she married and raised her family.Family and friends were her passion and she enjoyed sewing, reading, and taking care of people. She was a loving and caring mother and Granny to everyone.Vernie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Vilas, her daughter Shirley Fernandez and son-in-law Mac Fernandez of Hayward, her sister Margaret Jones of Wichita, KS and brothers George Hovey of San Ramon, CA and Monty Hovey of Ozark, MO, and her most cherished treasures, her grandchildren, Ryan “Rocky” Fernandez and Roxanne Fernandez of Hayward.No services will be held. A celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
