Urmila Devi Prasad's Obituary
URMILA DEVI PRASAD was a vibrant and spiritual woman with a wonderfully dry sense of humor. She loved laughing and connecting with her friends and family, and grew an abundant amount of fruits, vegetables, and flowers in her garden. Urmila transitioned from this world on December 23rd 2016, due to complications from End Stage Renal Disease at the age of 67.Urmila was born on December 1, 1949 in Nausori, Fiji Islands to Ganga Singh and Dhan Raji. She was a preschool teacher until she married Durga Prasad, in 1970. She lived in Suva, Fiji until emigrating with her husband and young daughter to Milpitas, California in 1978. She worked in the Silicon Valley tech industry as an electronic parts tester and clean-room operator until she retired in 2004. Urmila was a lifelong vegetarian and devout Hindu, and possessed a great compassion for animals (especially her dogs). She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and gave much of her time, energy and resources to her family and the local Hindu community.She is survived by her husband, Durga Prasad of Milpitas, CA, daughter Devika Penland and son-in-law David Penland of Asheville, NC, daughter Kristy Poornima Prasad and daughter-in-law Kristal Prasad of Dublin, CA and son Kunal Dhiraj Prasad of Milpitas, CA.Urmila is also survived by her three grandchildren: Jaya Grace Penland, Jackson Din Penland, and Finley Naresh Prasad, and her five sisters: Shanti Prasad, Nirmala Sharma, Meeta Miller, Lata Johnson and Anitta Sharma. She is preceded in death by her parents Ganga Ram Singh and Dhan Raji of Milpitas, CA.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the National Kidney Foundation at http://team.kidney.org/campaign/urmilaprasad.
