Ubo B. Mulder's Obituary
Longtime San Leandro resident, Ubo B. Mulder passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on November 21, 2018. Preceded in death and now reunited with his beloved wife Tina Mulder (1990) and daughter Linda Mulder (2013). Survived by brother Jan Mulder of The Netherlands, daughter Monica Dohmann (Rob), son Duane Mulder, and grandsons Alec and Cole Dohmann, and Brian Mulder.Ubo was born on Oct. 4, 1932 in Utrecht, Holland. He was drafted by the Royal Dutch Air Force in 1952 at the age of 19 where he worked in the Air Traffic Control Tower for two years and rose to the rank of Corporal status. He saw many important dignitaries during his two year stretch in the tower. In particular Arabian Sheiks with their harems always stood out in his memory when story telling. In 1956, he married his bride, Tina, and later in 1959 both immigrated to America by boat to the land of opportunity. Another significant memory was the day they arrived in New York and were welcomed to this country by the Statue of Liberty. They continued to California where they started their new lives. Ubo gained citizenship in 1964 and was very proud to call himself an American and considered America his home. Educated as a Mechanical Engineer, Ubo worked for Scott Company in Oakland. In 1972, he and his partner started their own successful business, Van-Mulder Sheet Metal. After 21 years, Ubo sold his company and retired in 1993. The company still bears the name of Van Mulder and is successfully operating.Many memories were made in the early family years at Ubo’s ‘happy places’, Lake Folsom and Lake Camanche He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and throughout California.Ubo enjoyed his Portals of Prayer devotion, keeping up on current events, reading John Grisham novels, watching Jeopardy, old Hogan Heroes reruns, and hearing about the latest activities of his grandsons, the ABC trio!Ubo was a true genuine man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.Private family services will be held.
