Trancito Lawrence “Larry” AragonAugust 11, 1926 – November 14, 2015Resident of Newark, CaliforniaTrancito Lawrence “Larry” Aragon passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 14. He was 89.Trancito was born in Pena Blanca, New Mexico, and raised in Albuquerque. He left home at the age of 17 to serve his country in World War II. He was a Seaman 1st Class on the U.S.S. Clearfield and was honorably discharged on February 21, 1946. He was awarded one star for serving in the Asiatic Pacific Area and the Victory Medal for World War II.After the war, Trancito travelled to Oakland, California, where he met his wife, Maria Theresa Aragon, nee Pita. They were wed on October 31, 1958, and bought a home in Newark, California, where they raised four children: Aaron, Lucinda, Lawrence and Christina.Trancito worked as a machinist at Caterpillar Tractor for 27 years and retired in 1984. He was a proud member and 55-year veteran of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.Trancito missed his calling as a history professor. He was a voracious reader, with a particular fondness for history and historical fiction. He spoke and read three languages.His children remember him as a loving father who instilled the virtues of honesty, hard work, generosity and compassion. His grandchildren remember him as a tender and doting grandfather.Trancito is survived by his brothers, Gilbert Aragon, Manuel Aragon, Roger Aragon and Father Salvador Aragon of Albuquerque; sisters, Mary “Pra” Aragon, Virginia Long, and Stella Miller of Albuquerque; wife, Maria Theresa Aragon of Newark; children, Aaron Aragon of Newark, Lucinda Aragon of Newark, Lawrence Aragon of Fremont and Christina Rodriguez of Newark; grandchildren, Elizabeth Aragon, Camille Inez Resendez, Cassandra Rodriguez, Samuel Aragon and Joshua Aragon; and great grandchildren, Fernando Rodriguez Ibarra, Aleyna Rodriguez Ibarra and Delilah Resendez.He was preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe Aragon, and father, Telesfor Aragon, of Albuquerque.
