TONY LIMA's Obituary
Tony Mario Lima passed away on November 20, 2013. Tony was born March 15, 1933 Island of Faial, the Azores Islands, Portugal.He is survived by his loving wife Maria Lima of 54 years, their three children; Antonio Lima and wife Luzdimar, Manuela Standish and husband Brian, Connie Slifer and husband David. Tony leaves behind 8 grand-children; Samuel and Joshua Lima, Jacob and Brittany Standish, David, Michael, Mark and Matthew Slifer, and two great grand-children; Haylee and Maleah Lima. In addition, Tony is survived by numerous extended family members including one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, as well as other family and friends. Tony immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967, settling in Hayward, California. He retired from PG&E after 27 years as a meter mechanic in 1995. He was recognized for his dedication and contribution at PGE, known for his humor and fairness, and was highly respected among his peers. Tony was a simple and quiet man known for his hospitality as he welcomed guests with a glass of wine, food, and open arms. Tony always made sure his children and their friends had a ride to youth activities and everyone always had a place to call home. Tony in his quiet manner, exemplified responsibility in taking care of his family and work duties, by always striving to do the right thing, and in doing small kind acts behind the scenes.The joy of Tony’s life was spending time with his family. He played Santa Claus during Christmas for his grandchildren, and along with his wife Maria spent hours decorating the house during the Christmas holidays. He spent countless summers with his family visiting the Santa Cruz coast to enjoy the beach and pier fishing.Among his favorite activities was to visit the numerous California casinos, playing the Lottery, gardening, and watching soccer. He was a passionate soccer fan who followed the Benfica soccer club of Portugal and the Portuguese National team. Tony passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. The family wants to thank the many family members and friends who visited Tony the last few months. This brought much joy and encouragement to Tony. The family would also thank the Kaiser Permanente Group for the great staff and services provided during these last few years. Tony was preceded in death by his father Antonio de Sousa Lima, mother Maria Carmo Lobao, and sister Maria Lurdes Costa. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday November 30 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544.
