Sylvia S. Villaflor's Obituary
Sylvia Solomon Villaflor Resident of Alameda (Nov. 3, 1937 – May 14, 2010) Sylvia passed away on May 14th at the age of 72. Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Bayani Villaflor. Sylvia is also survived by her 3 children: Caroline (Warren), Bernard (Delia) and Alfred. And also 3 grandchildren that she enjoyed spending time with: Alexandra, Brandon and Jocelyn. Sylvia has several siblings: Emma Morales (preceded in death), Cesar Solomon, Josefina Laxima, Rosario Joble and Ricardo Solomon. Sylvia was born in the city of Manila in the Philippine Islands in 1937 to Manuel and Consolation Solomon. She graduated from Philippine Normal College with a BSEE degree and spent her early adulthood as a teacher. She married Bayani in 1961 and emigrated to the United States in 1963. Sylvia was employed for 23 years with the United States Postal Service, working primarily at the Oakland Main Sort facility. In her leisure time, Sylvia enjoyed ballroom dancing, gardening, travel and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite travel destinations were Las Vegas, Reno and Hawaii. Sylvia was beloved for her “all welcome” holiday parties at her home in Alameda, hosting massive Christmas get-togethers for her large extended family, and many friends and acquaintances. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, May 20 from 6-8 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward. A funeral service will take place at St Joseph Catholic Church, 1109 Chestnut St, Alameda on Friday May 21, 9:30 a.m. followed by burial at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward (510) 471-3363.
