Sylvia Arlene Ruhl's Obituary
Sylvia Arlene Ruhl, 85, of San Mateo, died September 2, 2013, after a short illness.Born in Aurora, Illinois, Sylvia lived in the San Mateo area for over 60 years. As a United Service Organizations Inc. (USO) entertainer (dancer) during World War II, Sylvia helped to boost Pacific theater troops’ morale. Aboard ship on return home, she met the love of her life and future husband, Rudy, who was serving in the Navy. Rudy, or Rudolph C Ruhl, Jr, later became a building contractor and Burlingame police officer. After raising her children, she was a long-term employee of Preston’s Candies and Ice Cream. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Sylvia is survived by her son, Steven J Ruhl; her daughter, Sandra L Ruhl; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.A private service will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park.Donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Sylvia are welcomed.
