Sydney Lloyd Williams, Jr. Resident of San Lorenzo May 13, 1921 – April 9, 2016Syd Williams passed peacefully into rest on April 9th, at the age of 94, with his wife by his side.Syd was born in Bandon, Oregon, then moved to California as a young boy. He attended UC Davis and UC Berkeley. He served in the US Army, from 1942-1945 during World War II. He spent 27 months stationed in Hawaii.While working at Western Air Lines, Syd met his future wife, Marguerite Lindensmith. They were married on November 11, 1946. Syd enjoyed a career with Bank of America from 1948-1980. After retiring, he held several jobs, including school bus driver, bookkeeper for St Joachim’s School in Hayward and St Raymond’s School in Dublin.Syd was a member of St Joachim’s church, serving as an usher, volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and counting the offering money. He was active in the Lions Club, and was awarded honorary lifetime member of the SIRS Branch #26. He enjoyed traveling, and was an avid sports fan, enjoying Oakland A’s and Stanford athletics. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also liked to listen to Dixieland Jazz, attending several festivals throughout the years.Syd was a charmer, with his welcoming smile and wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered for his dry wit, sharp mind and carefree attitude.Syd leaves behind his wife, Marguerite; children, Philip Williams of San Francisco, Kathleen (Tim) Simonsen of Ashland, Oregon, Curtis (Stephanie) Williams of Hayward, Barbara Schulte of Dublin and Julie Williams of San Lorenzo; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.Visitation will be Thursday, April 21 from 5-7 pm, followed by a memorial service at 7 pm at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. A Funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 22 at 10:30 am at St. Joachim’s Church in Hayward.Syd’s request was in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Joachim’s parish.
