GENEDINA SUNDITA TALOSIG's Obituary
“Genedina Sundita Talosig, the matriarch of the Sundita Family, was born on May 14, 1937 in Manila, Philippines. On September 16, 2014, at the age of 77, she succumbed to her long-term illnesses. A native of Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati, Genedina was the seventh child out of ten born to Nicomedes Nazareno Sundita of Oslob, Cebu and Estelita Fermin of Tuguegarao, Cagayan. “Genny” or “Nene,” as she was affectionately called by friends and family, was one of two first police women to serve for the city of Makati. Befitting her role as a law enforcement agent, she upheld her role as the family enforcer by ensuring that the younger generation continue to adhere to family and cultural values. During her tenure as a police officer she met, then married Ben Talosig of Batangas on May 17, 1964 (actually to the surprise of many). In the late 1960’s, Genny and Ben first settled in San Francisco (Visitation Valley) where they lived for several years before moving to various Bay Area locations. Retiring from PG&E in the early 80’s Nene and Ben then owned and operated a liquor store. In 2006, now fully retired they settled in Marysville, CA to be near their beloved university (various casinos)…oh…and their granddaughter Jocelynn “Nini”. Besides the “One Arm Bandit”, Genny also was passionate about her cooking and her gardening. She kept her mother’s recipes alive while tending to her beautiful array of orchids. During her teen years, she was known for her athletic abilities. She was a softball player and a track and field star, excelling in pole vaulting. Genedina was recently preceded in death by her cousin Bie Fermin Taylor by only a week and her aunt Florencia “Tita” Fermin in late 2013. Also preceding her were her older brothers Matt and Ernie Sundita in 2012, her older sister Mila San Juan in 2003 and her older brother Tom in 1994. She is survived by her loving husband Ben of 50 years, sons Marlo and AJ, sisters Charry Tutana and Len Sundita Sundita, sisters-in-law Cora and Lot Sundita, grandson Aaron Talosig and granddaughter Jocelynn Barbin; mother of her great-grandchildren Uriah and Kalani Genedina Barbin. She is also survived by a huge extended family. Genedina is greatly loved and will be forever remembered. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.”
